Hello, just joined after following postings from DA. Thought I would say hi and share my current two fav action flicks... Ong-Bak and Chocolate are two great Martial Arts films. Ong-Bak stars Tony Jaa and Chocolate stars Jeeja (forget her full name). Great Thai films, I was impressed with their production, directed by the same, sorry don't know name. If you haven't seen, I deffiantly recommend. Tony Jaa does some great Muay Thai moves (Muay Boran also? one of his move is suppose to be more the older style then current). Jeeja also does some great kickboxing, plus many other great moves and pretty gifted. Plus she's cute I watched them in dubbed and in Thai (don't speak) with subtitles. First time good to watch dubbed so don't miss action, but rewatched in orginal even though dubs aren't bad. Well, care to hear what other's think of these films.

I've heard of Ong-Bak, haven't seen it yet. I'll have to look up Chocolate. I like Muay Thai so these sound interesting to say the least! Thanks for the heads-up!

Yeah, I'm pretty partial to Muay Thai. Mainly I worked in Singapore for couple months and then took some vaction in Thailand/Malaysian/Cambodia. Saw some real matches, very brutal. The worst part is watching the kids (like 9-13). All really tear each other up, cool when they are adults. But hard to watch when they aren't even teens. I work with alot of ex-navy (I'm ex AirForce ) so we talk about thai experience. The thai's love getting some 200 pound US marine in the ring and having a 120lb thai kick their ass A 200 guy that gets in a bar fight here and there can't compete against someone who trains every day. I just bought Ong-Bak on sell for 6.99 usd at best buy Of the two I'm partial to chocolate, mainly because I'm a sucker for cute little asian chicks that kick butt But, for Muay Thai Tony Jaa is the man!!! Jeeja is some freak prodigy that seems to be able to ANYTHING. Her first fight sceen she does some cool bruce lee shouts. Hard to explain, but after she attacks she does some scream, like Bruce would do. She not really doing full Jett Kun Do, but it's so cute seeing her scream like Bruce. The story line is she is autistic (sp?) and has some natural ability to mimic what she sees. All she does is watch martial arts films, and lives next to a kick box school.

Wow, I HAVE to check out Chocolate. That sounds wild! How common are female Muay Thai fighters? SouthEast Asia as so many cool things going on. A friend of mine on DA is of Vietnamese heritage and she shared some of her pics from a holiday she had in Vietnam. Very beautiful indeed. Singapore sounds like an amazing city too. I've never had the opportunity to visit that area of the world, but one day I'd like to do so. I remember some of you photos of Singapore......amazing!

Female Muay Thai fighter are somewhat common. I've gone twice, there was one female fight of the two (about 6-8 fights a night). The fight was against a tall lean Thai girl against a short stocky Japanese girl who was pretty good in Karate, but didn't know Kick boxing. The Japanese girl fought good when she got in close, but the Thai girl quickly learn to keep her at distance. Muay Thai is pretty brutal Though if you ever go, got to make sure you go to a real event, as they some times do tourist ones that are all show. It's generally easy to tell the difference. Seen, plenty of blood, concussions, etc. Also, if there are Thais there betting then it's real. Koh Samui, an island in south china sea has two rings, there were having like 2 events a week each ring (total about 4 a week). Koh Phuket has a ring also, maybe more. I went diving in Koh Samui amazing, though I guess Koh Phuket in the Indian ocean is better for diving.

Hopefully one of these days I'll make it to that part of the world and see some of what you discribed. So your version of Chocolate was dubbed in English? I've been searching Ebay and most I've come accross are in Thai with subtitles.

I rented the Blueray from Netflix. I just checked the DVD on Bestbuy. It is listed as languages English and Thai with subtitles as English and Spanish. That is how the blueray is. So you should be able to watch in dubbed or orginal. Female Muay Thai fighter are somewhat common. I've gone twice, there was one female fight of the two (about 6-8 fights a night). Chocolate was wild! Great action, nothing outragously over the top which I liked. Her mom was hot, even when she had cancer. What was with those transvestites? I never saw autism explored like this in a martial arts movie. I wonder if in an autistic brain such skill could develop. The meat market scene was one of my favorites and of course the final one. I kinds wish they showed her learning the kick-boxing, martial arts a little more. She was cute....even with all the "mommy, mommy" cries after she's just killed or beaten twenty-five men.

Yeah, can tell you haven't been to Bangkok There are alot of ladyboys there. I've heard alot of stories of drunk Navy guys acciendtly picking up a ladyboy and then gets upsets when finds out. If they hit her, she will come back with abunch of their friends for revenge. Hard to explain to his buds how he got beat up by some ladyboys Yeah, the mom was hot. Very sexy, but I just adore Jeeja's cuteness. I've seen some cool interviews of her on TV shows. I don't understand Thai, but they get her to some stunts, amazing. Her smile is too sweet I think the deal with the autism was that she see something and instantly memorizes the moves. Kinda like how Dustin Hoffman can memorize the phonebook or baseball stats in Rainman. I got the impression that the Boss was her father, not the Japanese guy and the boy she fights in sweats is her half brother. Only thing that seems to explain two special individuals as seems old would be difficult and usually genetic related. My favorite sceen was the icehouse were she was acting like Bruce Lee, too cute

I just loved how she would collapse when she returned home after getting the money for her mother. She collapse in the floor like a bag of potatoes. I loved the scene too where (I think) in the ice house when they first start beating her up and all the flashbacks start and within an instant she turns into this killing machine. I'm a sucker for that stuff. I'm curious to see this in Thai, I'll have to re-watch it soon. A great movie. I'm glad they make martial arts movies of this quality today.

Well, I think Bruce Lee goes with out saying. I also like Kung Fu with David Carradine, though Martial Arts isn't the main focus of the series. I've seen a few recently, don't remember names. I do like some of the newer Chinese films like Crouching Tiger and House of Flying Daggers, etc. Though you can't give these films the same respect. I'll watch anything if Zhang Ziyi is in it
