Lately i have bee sketching with a ball point pen on 11x17 copier paper and then scan the art in and paint over it with my tablet. My tablet has a clear sheet i can trace my drawings but it doesn't turn out as well as just sketching it out. I save all my good pencils and inks for commissions.

How large is your tablet? I have an old one...a Wacom from 2002. I tend to scan many of my pieces in pencil and ink stages for future reference and work. I have had some disasters in the coloring and those pencil/ink pieces have come in handy.

It feels more like a brush actually. It get some getting used too. I want a Cintiq as you draw right on the screen tablet instead of a tablet and looking up, that was the hardest part, but it didnt take that long... Cintiq cost at least 2 grand though- check it out... www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE2APo_EORQ

12" X 9" is larger then mine. I always had trouble getting a good feel for the pen and looking up is really tedious. I guess one just gets use to it. That Cintiq looks amazing. I like that glove he has. It's always wild to see other artist at work.

Wow. If I ever got the stones to actually make the dive into digital, I might think of getting a Wacom, I heard it was really user-friendly from a pal of mine... but I guess I'm just a traditionalist at heart. The most digi I get right now is scanning the pics into the computer to post anything on DA. LOL!

Thanks so much for making that tutorial. I've always loved your fire illustrations. Very cool indeed!

Believe it or not, those actually will help me out with my drawing in traditional media, only I'd have to work backwards with light to dark... LOL.
Very nice, thanks!

Sketches! How often do any of you just practice your characters' poses, designs, whatever with sketches. I have stacks of old papers with ideas, poses of all sorts. Only after something has really so potential do I take it to the quality paper for inking and coloring.

Only after something has really so potential do I take it to the quality paper for inking and coloring. I try to doodle everyday. I use to have stacks of sketches but i end up throwing them away when the pile falls over. I use to keep them for reference in the future. Now i use a 3d model and pose it how i like and start sketching. Toys are good for this as well. well the detailed ones like McFarlane's stuff. Another thing i do is collect art off of sites and put them all in a computer folder, i then put that folder on slide show and watch for a few minutes to get inspiration from great artist.
