I received my new (medium) Wacom Intuos 5 tablet last night and I've been exploring the features. I've only had the circa 2002 Wacom Steel Blue tablet to which I rarely used even when it was new so I'm pretty new to the tablet world.
After playing around the with the features I think I'll find a place for this device especially with editing and backgrounds of my pieces. The pen should work alot better then my mouse. I know I'm going to have to teach myself how to draw on the table and have the image on the screen. It will take me a long time to get the strokes down. After drawing for thirty-five years with pencil on paper I don't see myself jumping straight to all digital. I may at some point use pencil pieces as a basic layout for a digital piece but I'll keep my old way of pencil to ink to maker to scanner to digital edit. I've been using digital editing (Photoshop) for over ten years and I still keep with my markers and inks. I just like using as many the medium as I can.
The new Intuos5 has a feature that one can use their hands like other tablets, IPhones and so forth to move the canvas if the piece you're working on. I haven't gotten that far with my tablet since I'm still new to the basics. I'll program that part when I get the basics down....which for me may be a while.
I'll post more of my tablet works as time goes by and I've gotten more accustomed to the device.

Does that thing have a fine tip cause most of the art I've seen from you barely take a half a page at times. Should be interesting seeing your first piece from it.

Well I'm in no way abandoning paper, pencil, and ink. I will learn to use the tablet over time. I'm using it now to detail work and editing of pieces. I'd be a fool to jump both feet forward into the tablet medium with so little experience. LOL, it will take me years to learn. The Intuos 5 comes with many fine nibs. It has been said the fine nibs do wear off over time so I'll have to keep an eye on that. I can make the scene as large as I wish (in reason). I'm not as restricted as I was with paper but that is more of a CS5 merit.
