I just recently watched The Twilight Samurai and was wondering if anyone else saw this movie. It stars Hiroyuki (Henry) Sanada, who also appeared in Shogun's Ninja, Ninja Wars, and Legend of 8 Samurai, to name a few. Very good story, not a lot of fighting and no ninjas but a good period movie which I think really gives a realistic view of 19th century Japan. This movie was in Japanese but had English subtitles. I think any samurai fans should check this one out . Here is a review I saw on the web: www.kfccinema.com/reviews/swordplay/twilightsamurai/twilightsamurai.html

i believe this was oscar nominated as some point. i love the actor for the main character. (i thought he was the coolest person in last samurai) the last fight was a bit strange to me b/c i just never realized how pacifistic he was. it was a very good movie.

You are indeed correct, it was nominated for several foreign film awards.....it may have won a few, I'll have to look it up. Yeah, Hiroyuki Sanada is an excellent actor, one of my favorites from Japan. I agree, the last fight was weird but I found it more believable then many other films of that genre. A great film and period piece indeed.
