Guess I don'tthink of pirates too much in old Japan, but being an island and warring with China and so onI guess they had their fair share of pirates. Looks like a cool bookjnight.

Yes indeed, pirates were an important part of Far Eastern history. I really like this book. I'm glad to see a new book by Dr. Turnbull that isn't devoted purely to Samurai. The illustrations by Richard Hook really bring added life to this book.

The book looks interesting and that author sounds familiar for some reason??? It is indeed. I recommend buying any of his books if you are a fan of the Samurai, Ninja, and Far Eastern history. Here is Dr. Turnbull's website, www.stephenturnbull.com/

Anyone reading any good books these days, be it historical or fiction? I think a few new Turnbull books from Osprey are to come out in the US soon.

I have Turnbull's book Warriors of Medieval Japan. Pretty good book. I read his book on the Monguls, forget the name. It was interesting, but didn't impress me enough to buy. I have a book called Samurai, Arms, Armor, Costume, by Mitsuo Kure. It has some great reference photos of Samurai and other custumes from that area. I also have Geisha, Women of Japan's Flower & Willow World by Tina Skinner and Mary L Martin. Has alot of postcards and photos of Geisha from late 1800s to early 1900s.
None ninja books I'm reading include The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Civil War. Some interesting view points here. History is always written by the winners. Students are always taught that the Civil War was about slavery, which honesty wasn't the reason for both the North or the South. It was about States Rights versus the control and role that the Federal government should have. They also have on about the Depression, I read part of. Very revelant to todays current economy and the methods the government is taking.
I am also reading a Sky Almanac. Interested in tring to take pictures of Nebulas. Through some research it seems quite easy.

I just bought War Elephants by Konstantin Nossov and illustrated by Petter Dennis. Good book, though small for how much it cost. On the same lines as many of the Turnbull books.

Was flicking through a new Osprey Stephen Turnbull book today - it's in the "Raid" series? I'd never seen it before but it's much like the campaign series but rather than a significant battle it goes in depth into a samurai raid

You'll have to let me know if they are interesting reads. I had some Stephen Turbull books but of course my Mom gave them to goodwill.
