I just won an Ebay auction for three Ninja magazines, one from 1985, 1986, 1987.

I would love to check one of those out but the draw for me was those great covers that Ninja magazine had.

Here are the three covers of the Ninja magazines I recently won on Ebay, the third I have yet to receive. The first is Ninja #8, August 1985, second #17 December 1986, and the third (still waiting for) is #21, June 1987. These mags are typical of the vintage. The subscription for these bad boys in 1986 was $23.95 year (9 issues) and $44.00 for two years (18 issues). That's pretty steep for '86 prices. I believe Ninja magazine lasted until 1992 or so. I know they had at least 50 issues before folding. They have some very good articles for the ninja aficionado.

The artwork on the cover really is just to sell the mag, not related to the mag's content. The content is similar to that of other martial arts magazines like Black Belt and Inside Kung Fu.

Cool cover a very powerful looking Ninja. I don't like the background fireworks but I guess they had to do that for an anniversay issue by it being issue 24 I take it's the 2nd year anniversary?

The numbering of these is a little weird. I think early on it was 6 issues a year. By 1987, it was 12. There are 1984 issues so I would guess this is the thrid anniversary. I've tried to find later issues, wondering what they were like in the early 1990's. I know they were around until at least 1992, a #50 issue. I hardly ever see those on Ebay or anywhere else. I once saw a mag titled Ninja, dated in 1994, but the cover artwork was replaced by an actual photo.

I'm surprised the issue survived alittle in the 90's, I'm surprised a current martial arts magazine hasn't had a Ninja cover then again I've never really looked.

I've subscribed to Inside Kung Fu for many years and buy Black Belt magazine quite often. After about 1991, very few ninja articles have appeared. I too am surprised that Ninja lasted into the 1990's, the ninja fad had mainly ended by then. I really don't even remember Ninja on the newstands after about '89. Enter the Ninja has some issues for sale, www.entertheninja.com/ninja_store/magazines.shtml with a few issues up until 1991.
